Sunclass Airlines intends to purchase synthetic Jet Fuel, eKerosene, from Arcadia eFuels

November 4, 2022

Arcadia eFuels ApS and Sunclass Airlines ApS, part of Nordic Leisure Travel Group, are pleased to announce that Sunclass intends to purchase approximately 18,000 Metric tonnes of eJet fuel yearly from Arcadia eFuels using the strong distribution network of DCC & Shell Aviation Denmark, a joint venture between DCC plc and Shell’s global aviation fuel business.

As a Nordic airline, Sunclass Airlines ApS (“Sunclass”) has a great interest in reducing the company’s climate impact by reducing the use of fossil fuels. The strategy for Sunclass and the parent company, Nordic Leisure Travel Group, is to reduce CO2 by investing in improvements to the aircraft fleet, in own branded hotels and in facilities across the group. In addition to these important steps, the company is committed to make investments in Sustainable Aviation Fuel and new technology to secure future operations. Therefore, Sunclass is interested in collaborating with fuel developers, who can present a realistic and attractive plan for the development, manufacture, and supply of a sustainable PtX or PtL based jet fuel, also called eFuels. The efforts to develop  sustainable fuel are carried out in close collaboration with NISA (Nordic Initiative for Sustainable Aviation)

“Arcadia eFuels is excited to be working together with Sunclass Airlines and DCC & Shell Aviation Denmark on decarbonizing aviation. It is an important step towards reaching decarbonization goals and scaling up green fuels for a net zero world. This type of collaboration is exactly what we need to bring efuels to market”, says Amy Hebert, CEO at Arcadia eFuels.

“We are happy to have established a partnership with Arcadia and DCC & Shell Aviation Denmark and look forward to a future supply of SAF fuel (eKerosene). This type of collaboration is important for Nordic Leisure Travel Group and supports our strategy to reduce our carbon emissions with 25% by 2030 and our long-term vision to completely avoid carbon emissions by 2050”, says Torben Østergaard, MD at Sunclass Airlines.

Arcadia eFuels plans to establish facilities to produce carbon-neutral synthetic jet fuel based on water, carbon, and renewable power. The company’s production method and setup meet the market’s ambitions for a transition from fossil fuels to products that significantly reduce climate impacts.

eFuels have been designated by the EU as well as by several countries and individual companies as an important and growing route to reduce aviation emissions. Sunclass, Arcadia and DCC & Shell Aviation Denmark agree and want to accelerate this development. Arcadia intends to be producing commercial quantities of eFuels in the near future.
